Risks & challenges faced by the coconut growers – How to mitigate & the way forward
Branch Meeting of the Chilaw-Puttalam area of the Coconut Growers Association of Sri Lanka was successfully held on the Saturday, 03rd of February at the Lion’s Club Activity center in Mudukatuwa Marawila.
The theme of the event is Risks & challenges faced by the coconut growers – How to mitigate & the way forward.
Other than the Board directors of Coconut Growers Association Dr. AAAJ Athapaththu, Dr. CS Herath from the Coconut Research institute, Mr. Chaturanga Wickramaratne from Coconut Cultivation Board , Ms. Jayani Senarath the Regional Manager of Coconut Cultivation Board Marawila , Mr. Ajith de Silve from Goodlife holdings Pvt.Ltd was participated for the event.
Mr. Ranjith Wickramanayake is the Chilaw Pullalam branch committee president of CGASL and with the supervision of the Chairperson of Membership development committee Mrs. Rohini Wimalasuriya he will do a great work for the organizations on that day. First, he addresses all the people who came to the event and all the resource people.
The secretary Mr. Shakila Wijeratne has delivered his speech and presentation on CGASL and CGASL’s Works. He invited all the coconut growers who engaged with the event to come and join with the sub committees of coconut growers’ association and take the advantage from the organization to them.
Dr. A.A.A.J. Athapaththu the speaker from Coconut research Institute has address the growers regarding the climatic changes happens in the world and how to control the adverse effects of the upcoming drough as the department of meterology had forecasted for the next few months.
Mr. Chathuranga Wickramaratne, Research officer of Coconut Development Authority delivered his presentation and speech regarding the Coconut auction by CDA, and the way coconut growers can enter that auction, registered in there and so on. Coconut growers are actively engaged in the event by continuously asked for questions by the officers and clarify all their problems.
The Main sponsor of the event Goodlife holdings Pvt. Ltd and they had done a Presentation on the “drip irrigation System for the Coconut Cultivating Feilds” and had a field visit to coconut estate as well.
E.B.C Solar by the Renewable energy division of E.B. Creasy & Co. PLC has presented Solar power water irrigation system that can be used for the coconut cultivating lands.
Mrs. Jayani Senarathne the new regional manager of Coconut Cultivation Board Marawila is also joined with the event, and she said the chilaw-Puttalam area is like a heart of coconut cultivation in the country and its pleasure to work with this type of potential coconut growers.
Also, there were some of the coconut growers are engaged as new members to the association and CGASL is willing to work with for the sustainability of Sri Lankan Coconut industry.
