“How to improve the coconut cultivation by improving soil conditions of the field” – Webinar was conducted by CGASL to the members in Kuliyapitiya
The Coconut Growers Association of Sri Lanka (CGASL) conducted a webinar in Kuliyapitiya on “Enhancing Coconut Cultivation by Improving Soil Conditions.” This series aimed to educate growers about challenges in their lands and obtain knowledge from the organization about good farming practices.
The webinar was held on February 29, 2024, from 6:30 PM, via Zoom. The theme was How to improve coconut cultivation by improving soil conditions of on coconut propewrties.
Other than the Coconut Growers Association of Sri Lanka, Kuliyapitiya Regional Office of the Coconut Cultivation Board, Coconut Research Institute, and CIC, actively participated in the event.
Mr. Cryshantha Jayawardhana, the President of CGASL, and Mr. Shakila Wijayawardhana, the Secretary of the Organization, addressed the meeting, and introduced the organization’s new vision, mission, and goals to the participants. Dr. A.A.A.J. Athapaththu from CRI delivered a presentation on improving coconut cultivation by optimizing soil conditions that will be helpful to the growers to enhance their yield through proper soil management. Mr. Leel Weerasekara from CIC provided insights into fertilizer usage and its importance. Mr. Senavirathne, the Regional Manager of the Coconut Cultivation Board, discussed extension services from the CCB which will be beneficial to growers such as seedling distribution services, coconut land conservation services by adding coconut husks and dolomite and specially the control measures for the White fly damage on Coconut lands.
As an incentive, CIC announced a special discount for participants purchasing CIC fertilizer within the next two months after attending the session
