Southern Branch of CGASL addresses Issues of members.

A meeting of the southern Branch of the Coconut Growers of Sri Lanka was held on 2nd September 2023, the day named as “World Coconut Day” at the Coconut cultivation board regional office in Nupe, Mathara.

The welcome address was given by Mr. Shantha Dissanayake, the President of Southern Branch committee and issues facing the coconut growers with the Weligama Wilt disease and what the authorities have done so far to mitigate the spread and what remedial measures should be taken in the future were discussed.

Mr. Leelanda, Regional Manager Coconut Cultivation Board to detailed at what stage the control measures were at now. The members who attended the meeting raised their concerns regarding replanting and felt their was no clear action plan by the authorities to provide planting materials or even give permission to plant seedlings in certain areas. Many had given up planting coconut and invested in Cinnamon.

Mr.Crushantha Jayawardhana , the president of the CGASL also spoke of the road map and the way Forword of CGAAL
