Advancing Sri Lanka’s Coconut Industry: Stakeholder Consultations for the Coconut Research Institute (CRI) Performance Review

We are pleased to highlight our recent participation in the stakeholder consultation meetings organised by the National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC) on 4 June and 10 June 2026 at Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla.

These important consultations formed part of the comprehensive Performance Review of the Coconut Research Institute (CRI), a key institution supporting research, innovation, and development within Sri Lanka’s coconut industry.

The sessions brought together representatives from major public sector organisations, including the Coconut Development Authority, the Coconut Cultivation Board, and the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure. Industry associations representing coconut growers, millers, and exporters also participated, providing a broad range of perspectives from across the value chain.

The meetings served as a valuable platform for the Review Panel to engage with stakeholders, identify sector challenges, discuss emerging industry needs, and gather expectations regarding future research priorities and institutional support. The consultations encouraged constructive dialogue aimed at strengthening the effectiveness and relevance of research-driven interventions within the coconut sector.

We are proud to have contributed our insights and industry perspectives to this important review process. Through evidence-based recommendations and collaborative stakeholder engagement, the initiative seeks to enhance the institutional performance of the Coconut Research Institute and support the sustainable growth, competitiveness, and long-term resilience of Sri Lanka’s coconut industry.
